Cutting Edge Begins Large-Scale Digital Archive Project

The San Francisco Giants’ rich legacy is chronicled in thousands of hours of film, video, and audio recordings. As the team marks the 60th anniversary of its move from New York to the San Francisco Bay Area, the Giants have chosen Cutting Edge to help manage digitization of the media collection, and deploy a state-of-the-art digital media library.

The result is an Avid editorial system based on Avid Nexis storage, Avid Interplay Central Production Asset Management, and Avid Media Composer. A Spectra Logic Black Pearl and T-950 tape library will allow the team’s logging specialists to sift through thousands of media clips, adding descriptive metadata, historical information, and vital context to the asset management database.

Maximizing Creativity: Oakland A’s Begin Multi-Site Editorial Workflow

Cutting Edge Designs and Deploys Collaborative Editing Solution

The Oakland Athletics are a team on the move, with major plans to construct a new stadium, and an evolving communication strategy built around digital and social media technology. But like many sports franchises, the team’s media production organization was forced to make do with cramped quarters that made it difficult for content creators to collaborate. When the A’s decided to open a new office facility to house Management, Sales and Marketing functions, the team turned to Cutting Edge to help.

“We needed a reliable way to extend our existing editing workflow from its home base at the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum to the new facility at Jack London Square in Oakland,” said David Don, the team’s Senior Director of Engineering and Multimedia Services. “We have a successful 5-year long partnership with Cutting Edge. They are file-based media workflow experts, and we knew they would come up with a novel approach to link together the two facilities.”

Cutting Edge Chief Technology Officer Sig Knapstad designed a solution that uses a 10 Gigabit per second data circuit to extend the A’s existing production network from the Stadium and to the Jack London Square locale. Editors at either locale can ingest, browse, and edit HD content using the A’s existing Avid Interplay/Media Central Production Asset Management system.
